Newsletter January 28th-February 1st

FYI: I will be out of town giving a presentation on Thursday and Friday in Seward, Nebraska.  Mrs. McCarthy will be the sub for my class on those two days.  Since I will be gone I have moved the math test around along with the order of lessons for this week only.

Math:  This week we will complete lessons 68-69 Monday and Tuesday.  We will review Wednesday for a test over lessons 1-65.  The test will be Thursday. Friday the students will have a video lesson over lesson 67 - multiplying with digits that end in zero.  Thank for being patient as our schedules changes some over the week.

Reading: Our theme this week is precipitation.  We have read Snow Flake Bentley.  The students used reading questions to help with comprehension and they worked on finding main idea and details. There will be a review on Thursday and a reading test Friday, February 1st.

Your child should be almost done or finished with reading their book for the report.  Take this week to compile artifacts and begin the writing process for what they want to represent on, I suggest index cards, something small for them to refer to during their report.  Next week they should be practicing their report and put the finishing touches on their book report.
The book report must be in a box of any size for example a shoe box or a small Rubbermaid tub from the dollar store are easy options.  The book report will be given to the class by the student they will need to have written down what they want to say about their book, either on an index card or a piece of paper so they know what to say about each artifact.
Due Thursday, February 7th

Author Visit: Tammy Carter Bronson will be visiting on Friday, February 1st.  If you would like to purchase a book to have her sign please bring the order form with money on Friday.  She will be speaking about her book Polliwog, which deals with change, to the fourth graders.  To show our excitement the fourth graders wrote their own books about change -- look for them in the hallway by the Kindergarten rooms.

Art: The students should be finishing their artwork like artist Sonia Delaunay.  We will be starting to learn about artist Claude Monet and his artwork "The Bridge" and "The Water Lilies".  The students will be using water colors for this project.

Character Development: This week we will work on social skills and how useful they can b when problem solving involving other people.
