Math:  This week we will be completing lessons 53-55 with a final math test for quarter two on Friday.  I am posting the videos to the math lessons on the blog and MyKoob for the students to learn from in a flipped classroom setting.  I am able to work with each individual child to check for understanding and they are able to start a good portion of their homework in class.

Reading: Our theme this week is "Bright Ideas."  We will be learning about the lives of Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin and how they made the world a "brighter" place.  The students have prepared Vocabulary Presentations showing they know how to use the words we are reading this week.

Art: We finished Van Gogh "The Starry Night."  They should be ready to go next week, they look amazing!  Christmas time brings our crazy schedules, Monday we have a field trip and Friday we have our classroom Christmas parties.  We continue learning about artists after the new year!

Newsletter December 10th-14th

Math:  This week we will start with a review Monday and a test Tuesday, December 12th.  Then we will do an investigation with Percents. Thursday and Friday we will work on adding and subtracting with more than 3 digits. Also, I am trying a new way to present lessons in math.  Three days this week students have watched me teach a lesson that I previously recorded, take video notes, and complete practice problems.  They have also been able to start and most completed their homework in class.  I am able to answer questions and they can each work at their own pace.  I have linked the videos to MyKoob through YouTube.  If you would like to see how the lesson is taught please feel free to watch me teach!

Reading: Our theme this week is "Bright Ideas."  We will be learning about the lives of Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin and how they made the world a "brighter" place.

Art: We finished Van Gogh "The Starry Night."  Look for it in the hallways before Christmas. We will be working on several Christmas projects over the next two weeks.  One project, a manger scene, we will take with us when we visit the Little Sisters of the Poor on Monday, December 17th. Look for these Christmas projects as we prepare our hearts for the coming King this season.

Character Development: This week we discussed comfortable and uncomfortable emotions or feelings.  We listened to a story about a boy, Toby, who had uncomfortable feelings that he bottled up inside of him for one day and then felt like he was going to explode.  We talked about healthy ways to express your feelings such as talking to a friend or an adult, drawing a picture, and writing in a journal.

Chapel Buddies: This week the fourth graders did a wonderful job helping the Kindergarten classes at Santa's Workshop.

Scholastic Book Orders:  If you would like place a book order for a Christmas present please let me know and I can discretely give your order to you before or after school.  Our next book order will be due Wednesday, December  12th
