News and Notes - January 25th-29th

Lutheran Schools Week is off to a great start!

Thank you for your donations of cereal boxes for the St. John's Morgan Ford Food Pantry.  In celebration we will be having a Cereal Breakfast from 7:45-8:15 a.m. on Friday, January 29th.  It is also Pajama day :)

During the day Friday, students will be making lunches to feed the homeless in the city through an organization called Gateway180.  They will be making 200 sandwiches and packing lunches on Friday morning.  We are so thankful for the many resources we have, now we are able to share with others in need through this project.

Jump Rope for Heart has been wonderful. Mrs. Knost does a fabulous job of incorporating Jesus into their Jumping time during PE class.  Our class will have our Jump Rope for Heart time on Thursday from 1:10-2:00.  Students should wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle.

CCLS Trivia Night
Hopefully you have heard about our upcoming CCLS Trivia Night on Friday, February 19, 2016.  I wanted to tell you about an exciting classroom challenge we are doing for the students.  Here's how it works.  If your child's class fills 1 table (either full of classroom parents or family friends), your child's classroom will receive a Leap Day Free Dress Day on February 29, 2016.  When you click the link to sign up, just note in the appropriate section which class should receive credit.  We will take it from there.

We hope you make plans to attend this fun evening.  It will be a great night to socialize with other CCLS families.

Audition and Operetta Information from Mrs. Killian

CCLS Elementary Operetta 2016
IN THE BIG INNING
Heavy Hitters in the Hall of Faith

Audition Info

Auditions will be held for both speaking and singing roles on Tuesday, January 19 and Thursday, January 21

Dear 4th Grade Students and Parents,
This year’s operetta is going to be a wonderful blend of music, dance, and media as the elementary students of CCLS share this wonderful story set in a park near a church where they gather to play baseball.  The children are in for a surprising glimpse at the Bible’s “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11. Moses, Noah, and Abraham are among those “heavy hitters.” The Good News of the Gospel is driven home in the final scenes.
Your students have been looking forward to this opportunity for some time. I will be assigning each student a role or special job during normal class time the third week of January through an audition process. I do not want the students to worry about this experience. I will make it as comfortable as possible for them all.  Auditions at this level are meant to assess the student’s ability to speak/sing clearly and his/her willingness to share their gift in front of a large group of people.  While I’d love to give every single interested student their dream part, we have a limited number of acting and singing spots.  I will do my best to accommodate the desires of each student and will add special jobs along the way.

Please consider helping in the following areas:
          Props and Stage Design
Classroom Rehearsal Assistant (no music experience necessary)
          Costume Design
          Program Design
Contact me as soon as possible if you are able to help make this musical one of the best…

Feel free to contact me with any questions/concerns.
Blessings,
Katie Killian
CCLS Elementary Music Teacher
