Newsletter April 28th-May 2nd

Math: This week Lesson 85-87; Test Thursday.

Reading: Reading Book Club is off to a strong start!  The students are working in small groups reading a story, working on comprehension questions along with predicting and cause and effect skills.  The Book Clubs will be held during reading class time so there will be no homework with the stories they are working on, there maybe other skill practice sheets to work on throughout the next few weeks.

This year we are blessed to have access to Tumblebooks.

Art: Students are working on art work with math. Tessellation patterns are all around us in the world, they will be making their own tessellation project during art class.

Robotics Field Trip: Friday, April 25. we will journey to the Edward Jones Dome to watch the World Championship Robotics Competitions.  It will be so exciting to see complex machines which were built by students performing according to their design.  It will be very crowded there and for safety sake we need several chaperons to go with us.  We want very small groups this day, so if you can arrange your day please volunteer to help out. 
Children will need a lunch and drink for this very exciting day.  
Please let your child's homeroom teacher know if they will be needing a sack lunch from school by Wednesday.

Reading: For the next few weeks the 4th graders have selected from list of eight books, one chapter book they would like to read in a Reading Workshop.  There will be questions from each chapter while working on predicting skills throughout the book.  Students will meet in a small group with me to work on reading skills.

Please join the 4th graders as they lead chapel service on Thursday at 8:35 a.m.


Also, you may join us at the end of the day on Thursday for a Good Friday chapel service led by the CCLS teachers at 2:15 p.m.

Newsletter April 14th-18th

Field Trip: Wednesday, April 16, we are going to the Sheldon Concert Hall and St. Louis Zoo.  We will see a theater production of "Beauty and the Beast".  Then we will enjoy lunch outside at Forest Park, behind the Dennis and Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center. Finally, we are working on a Biblical Animal Scavenger Hunt at the zoo, it would be more enjoyable and educational if we could have very small groups.  If you could join us just in the afternoon, please let me know.   
Children will need a lunch and drink for this very exciting day.

Achievement Tests:  Achievement test dates: April 14-15, 21-22.  Because of the field trip on the 16th and the fourth grade presenting chapel on Maundy Thursday we will probably have to finish our testing the week of the 21st.  Both fourth grade classes are practicing for these types of tests during the weeks leading up to testing dates. 

     Please help your child to be prepared for our testing days by making sure he/she gets enough sleep, has a good breakfast, and brings a healthy snack.  We also need individually wrapped chocolate mint candy to share with the class.  We will be using our stacking cups, taking many breaks for healthy snacks and water, and give a mint chocolate treat before each test to encourage the children to do their best.  And, remember those #2 pencils!

Field Trip Reminder

Just a reminder... $20 to Mrs. Endorf for field trips to Sheldon Concert Hall/Zoo and Edward Jones Dome Robotics Competition

Field Trip: Wednesday, April 16, we are going to the Sheldon Concert Hall and St. Louis Zoo.  We are only allowed 5 chaperons in the morning, however, we need many more in the afternoon.  We are working on a Biblical Animal Scavenger Hunt at the zoo after lunch and it would be more enjoyable and educational if we could have very small groups.  If you could join us just in the afternoon, please let me know.

Reading: The theme this week is Ants.  Students will work on describing a topic with detail while reading an information nonfiction story about the "The Life and Times of the Ant" by Charles Micucci.  Practice book pg.214-215 is due this week.
