Field Trip Reminders

Parents,

Please note the upcoming field trips (April 22nd and 29th) on your calendar.  We would love to have you join us if possible.  Please let your child's teacher know as soon as possible if you will be accompanying us on either or both of these trips.

Friday, April 22nd
  • Magic House from 10:15-11:45 (leave school at 10 a.m.)
    • Star-Spangled Field Trip - learning about how laws are made
    • Parents please email Mrs. Endorf if you can join us: KEndorf@ccls-stlouis.org
      • We NEED one adult for each 5 children.  Please consider coming.
      • I have to have a head count before we enter the Magic House.
    • The cost is $6/adult - your TADS account will be charged
      • membership passes are not valid for field trips
    • Parents please meet us at the Emerson Education Center Entrance
  • Laumeier Sculpture Park
    • Lunch at 12:15 p.m.
    • You may choose to order a sack lunch through the school cafeteria
      • teachers need to know by 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning
    • Scavenger Hunt at 1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
    • Explore the park with your group
  • Your child's TADS account will be charged $11

  • FIRST Robotics Competition - combining the excitement of sports with science and technology students will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from students from around the world.  Check out their website http://www.stlouisfirst.org/ .
    • 10:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
    • Please consider going with us--the more parents we have, the smaller the groups can be, and the more fun and learning will happen. Please email Mrs. Endorf if you can join us: KEndorf@ccls-stlouis.org
  • Bring a sack lunch - we will eat lunch at the convention center
    • In the past most groups pick a spot to eat around the convention center; there are benches, tables, etc around the building
  • You may choose to order a sack lunch through the school cafeteria
    • teachers need to know by 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning

Rules and instructions

Official rules
  • The pass is for U.S. fourth-grade (or home-school equivalent) students.
  • The pass is for the 2015 to 2016 school year. It expires August 31, 2016.
  • Students can't transfer the pass to anyone else.
  • We can’t accept electronic versions of this paper for access or to exchange for a pass.
  • There’s no way to request a refund later if you forget the pass when you visit.
  • If you lose your pass, get a new one by visiting the website and signing up again.
  • Educators can get one paper pass for each of their fourth-grade students.
  • This program only provides passes for fourth graders.
  • Current third graders can get their fourth-grade passes starting September 1, 2016.
How it works
  • Show your pass to a ranger when you enter. If there is no ranger, leave it on the dashboard of your car.
  • If you visit a site that charges entrance fees per person— The pass admits all children under 16 and up to three adults for free.
  • If your group visits a site that charges vehicle fees - The pass admits all children under 16 and all adults in up to one passenger vehicle. Commercial vehicles can't use a pass to get in.
  • If you arrive at a site on bicycle— The pass admits all children under 16 and up to three adults on bicycles.
  • The pass doesn't cover things like camping, boats, and special tours. Also, some sites are managed by private operators. They may not honor the pass. Check with the site ahead of time to find out.
  • The pass doesn’t cover fees for local, city, or state parks and recreation areas unless they say that they accept this pass.
  • Paper passes can be exchanged for plastic passes at certain sites.

Achievement Testing Week

Achievement Testing Week April 11th-15th

Please help your child:
  • get a good night's sleep - at least 8 hours of sleep
  • eat a healthy breakfast and bring a healthy snack for break time
  • getting to school on time
  • by gently encouraging your child to do his/her best


    Send in Mints - Why Mints? Article
    examples: Peppermints, Andes Mints, Peppermint Patties, Life Saver Mints
    • send in a bag of mints to share with your child's class
    Testing is best done in the mornings.  We will have around two tests/day.  The tests are not timed.  A break is given between each test.  Most afternoons the students are practicing and preparing for the Operetta.

    Math: In Math this week the students will work on lessons 75 and 76 and have a test Thursday.

    Reading: Students will be working on cause and effect while reading Wild Horses a narrative nonfiction story.  


    Art: Students have been working on designing and creating their own mosaic brick with my mother-in-law, Mrs. Endorf.  Please let your child's brick dry out over the next three weeks, outside is preferable.  After that time period if you would like to bring the brick inside, we suggest glueing a piece of felt or fabric to the bottom so that the brick does not scratch your surface inside.

    Library Days: Thursdays are our library day please help remind your student to bring back all library books on Thursdays.
