Christian Character Development: In our study of Christian Character Development we discussed how friendships are like Apples.  We have different levels of friendships: the outer layer is like getting to know a new friend, the inside, or the meat of the apple are your closer friends, and the core of the apple are your best friends.  We discussed how friends can go between the different levels depending on if you move to a new city, you grow apart, or develop different interests.  Also, we discussed how God uses the Holy Spirit in our lives to work in our heart's and our friend's hearts when we have troubles in our relationships.

Chapel Buddies: This week the 4th graders took time this week to play "high, low" a card game teaching the Kindergartners about comparing numbers.

Newsletter September 9th-13th

Math: Students will complete Lessons 12-16.

Reading: Our theme this week is "Our National Parks."  The students will be working on main idea and supporting details.

Book Report: Our first book report will be a mystery story.  Please help your child select a book that is on their readability level.  No A-Z Mystery stories for the book report.  They will have this week to find their book and begin reading their story.  In class they will receive handouts for what they need to complete for their book report.  The directions will be posted here soon.
To search books in our CCLS Library please use this link: CCLS Library

Tuesday is our Library day.  Please return all books by 8:20 a.m. Tuesday.  Students may check out two books at one time.

Art: We are completing our projects on how Failure Leads to Success with an animation.

It is time to begin our Louise Nevelson project.  We must have these items to create the artwork.  Louise Nevelson was an artist who took items that may appear like trash to some people and created beautiful sculptures with them.  Your mission is to find pieces of plastics, woods, and metals that can be painted.  For example: bolts, screws, wine corks, puzzle pieces, buttons, small wooden objects, pasta, trinkets from a dollar store or garage sale are always popular.  Whatever you can find that meets these needs will be greatly appreciated to begin our projects.

Christian Character Development: In our study of Christian Character Development we discussed what information is safe and unsafe to use on the Internet.  This year we will have opportunities to communicate with other classes via the Internet.  Students are learning about personal and private information and how we can live in a Christian Community while participating online.

Chapel Buddies: The 4th graders spent time this week reading with their chapel buddies.

Reading: Our theme this week is "Adapting to Survive".  We will be focusing on the reading skill of choosing the main idea and supporting details.  The students will practice during the week and have a skill review on Friday.  Practice at home by reading a paragraph, have them choose the main idea and two or three supporting details--this can be done from a book they are currently reading or a fun story that interests them. Our main story this week is "A Walk in the Desert".

Tuesday will be our first Library day.  Each student is allowed two books to check out at a time.  If a book is lost there is a fine of $5 for paperback books and $10 for hardcover books.  Books are due at the beginning of the day on Tuesdays.
