Jennie Williamson and Airson Concert

November first if almost here and that means that the PATT family night with dinner and concert is almost here as well. This event is happening at the CCLS elementary campus (8749 Watson Road).  PATT is sponsoring the dinner of pasta, salad and bread from Psghetti's beginning at 5:30 in the gym.  A free will donation will be accepted to cover the cost of the dinner.  If you will be joining us for dinner, please go to the CCLS website and click on the PATT tab and register for dinner.  We need the reservations placed by Sunday, October 28th.

The concert will be a concert of Christian Family music performed by Jenny Williamson and the group Arison.  They are from Nashville and have performed all over the country, including performances at many Lutheran Schools.  Below you can click on the you tube link for a sample of their music. This is a free concert.  We will have a door offering and the proceeds will be going to CCLS-U to help with the expenses of building a dormitory and a medical clinic.

We are looking for a few more sponsors for the concert as well, so that all of the donations can go to CCLS-U.  For a donation of $50 or more, you will receive reserved seating for the concert and a big thank you from the children of CCLS.  Please contact Janet Leet, 314-961-6595 or jleet@ccls-stlouis.org, if you would be interested in being a sponsor.

Looking forward to being together on Thursday, November 1st. Please be sure to invite your family and friends as well.  We would love to have a full house!!

Newsletter October 15th-19th

CCLS Sunday: Join us at Webster Groves this Sunday at 10:45 a.m. for a special CCLS Sunday worship service.  Mrs. Killian has been working with the students to sing a special song during worship, "My Number One".  If you can attend the service please arrive at 10:10 a.m. There will be a service at 8:00 a.m., a reception in between services and a service at 10:45 a.m.  Look forward to seeing you there!

Math:  This week in Math we will be finishing lesson 30 and reviewing for our 5th test.  The test will be on Thursday, October 18th over lessons 1-25.  We will also complete Investigation 3 on multiplication patterns, area, squares and square roots.

Reading: Our theme continues this week about wildlife.   The classes are reading "The Raft."  They are also developing a setting flow chart that highlights events and character's reactions in the story.  The test over "The Raft" will be this week.

Art:  This week the students learned about a type of art called batik. This type of art was used by people in Indonesia and South Eastern Asia.  They would use hot wax to create intricate designs for clothing and other items. In class we used glue to mimic the hot wax designs.  Students made fall leaf banners that they should be bringing home next week.  Remember to check the hallway for other artwork that has been posted.

Character Development: We continued to discuss characteristics of working in a group.  The students listed characteristics such as compromising, listening, acting Christ-like, sharing or taking turns and many others.  Hopefully they can put those to good use in the future!

Chapel Buddies: Thursday fourth graders helped their chapel buddy play Safety Bingo.  The fourth grader would read a clue and the kindergartner would pick which safety item it described.  October is fire safety month.  Make sure your child knows an escape route and a meeting place for your family in case of emergency.
