Mean, Median, Mode, and Range

Today students learned about testing and collecting data to find the mean, median, mode, and range.
They formed their own tests to collect data: running, jumping jacks, planks, and completing a full cycle in stacking cups.  After collecting several time trials they found the mean, median, mode, and range with their values.

Making Connections

Use these helpful questions to ask your child about connections they can make while reading a book.   We are using them with our Book Club Project.
Check out their website here: Book Club Project

·         Focusing on text-to-self connections:
o    What does this story remind you of?
o    Can you relate to the characters in the story?
o    Does anything in this story remind you of anything in your own life?

·         Focusing on text-to-text connections:
o    What does this remind you of in another book you have read?
o    How is this text similar to other things you have read?
o    How is this text different from other things you have read?

·         Focusing on text-to-world connections:
o    What does this remind you of in the real world?
o    How are events in this story similar to things that happen in the real world?

o    How are events in this story different from things that happen in the real world?

A Day in the Life of a Pioneer Kid

Here are some chores that kids would have done in the 1800s.
make candles
split wood
cut vegetables for lunch
build a fence
get water and wood for the family
shovel horse manure (this is the one skill we did not do)
