Newsletter March 9th-13th

Assignments
Assignments can be found on the planners posted in both 4th grade classrooms and on the google calendar on each student’s gmail account. All fourth graders were given a personal planner and are expected to write down the assignments each day.  It is suggested that they highlight or check off the finished items, so they can still see what it was.

Absences
Students will have one day for each day absent to make up assigned work. After that amount of time, the late work policy will begin.

Late Work
As we enter fourth quarter, to help children develop responsibility for their own work and in an effort to help the students prepare for the added independence of Middle School, we will implement these steps for this last quarter.
  • All work is expected to be turned in at the beginning of the class for which it was assigned on the day it is due.  This is usually the day after it is assigned.
  • Work turned in up to one day later will have the grade earned reduced by 10%.
  • Work turned in more than one day late will have the earned grade reduced by 50%.

Extra Recess
On Friday afternoons, the class will have two opportunities.
  • The children who have had all assignments ready on time will have an extra recess.
  • The children who have had late work will have an extra study time to catch up and ask a teacher questions.

Re-doing Work
We are asking that the students:
  • take a bit more time working on their assignments,
  • ask important questions so they know exactly what to do,
  • check over their work,
  • work carefully and slowly until they are sure,
and then the grade they receive will reflect their ability and learning. We will review concepts with children who re-do work to improve learning, but will not adjust grades.

Math: In Math this week the students will lessons 72 and 73 with a Test on Tuesday.

Reading: In this week students will be focusing on problem and solution while creating their own dialogue in a play with vocabulary words they have chosen from their reading book.

We will be using books all year long from our online program Tumblebooks.
Please take advantage of using Tumblebooks in your home too.
