January 27th - 31st

Math: This week students will work on lessons 59-60; Investigation 6 and a Test on Friday.

Reading: The theme this week is Going to the Library.  We will work on finding main ideas of a stories.  We will also read an abbreviated version of Because of Winn Dixie.  
Vocabulary Words: Peculiar, Snuffled, Positive, Selection, Consisted, and Advanced 

Author Visit: Cynthia Willenbrock will be visiting with us on Wednesday, January 29th with her special guest Marshall.  Her book is called Marshall the Miracle Dog.  Marshall will be along for the visit as well!  We are also collecting donations for Marshall and the Human Society dogs, please bring in these items to school by Thursday, February 6th.

Research Project: This project will take the place of a book report of the third quarter.
You will find all the information in these documents please read carefully and ask questions along the way.  I am excited to see what the students come up with!  Students have begun to work on their works cited page.  All information can be found in their Google Drive.  We have spent some time in class going over the expectations for the report but work should be done at home too.

From October - March your child will have an opportunity to fill out their Book IT! reading calendar saying they read 20 minutes a day.  When they turn in their form, they will receive a certificate to Pizza Hut for a free, one-topping Personal Pizza for their reading achievement.

Parents its Operetta Season!  Mrs. Killian is working very hard to prepare the 4th graders who have the main roles in the school operetta.  Please work with your student on lines or singing parts at home.  Mrs. Killian will be working with the students now through March to prepare for this wonderful event.  
The operetta is on Thursday, March 6th at 7:00 p.m. at Webster Groves Campus.  All students are required to attend and each fourth grader has a significant role in the operetta.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Math: This week students will work on lessons 56-59.

Reading: The theme this week is Man's Best Friend.  As we are preparing for our author visit from Cynthia Willenbrock with her dog Marshall, we will be working more this week with different dogs in literature. Students will work on Drawing Conclusions as we read Dear Mrs. LaRue Letters from Obedience School.  
Vocabulary Words: neglected, appreciated, risks, bluffing, misunderstood, desperate, endured, obedience, melodramatic, misconceptions, behavioral (they will continue to work on prefixes and suffixes in phonics)

Reading: The theme this week is People Who Made a Difference. Students will work on Author's Purpose as we read My Brother Martin and Dear Mrs. Parks.  Also, we will have videos and activities that talk about how Dr. King felt it was the responsibility of every person to serve others. 

Research Project: This project will take the place of a book report of the third quarter.

Reading: Students will work on their summarizing skills with main idea and detail.  The theme this week is, appropriately, Precipitation. We will read Let It Snow and Snow Flake Bentley.  We will have a short comprehension quiz with vocabulary on Friday.

Research Project: This project will take the place of a book report of the third quarter.
