Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Math: This week students will work on lessons 56-59.

Reading: The theme this week is Man's Best Friend.  As we are preparing for our author visit from Cynthia Willenbrock with her dog Marshall, we will be working more this week with different dogs in literature. Students will work on Drawing Conclusions as we read Dear Mrs. LaRue Letters from Obedience School.  
Vocabulary Words: neglected, appreciated, risks, bluffing, misunderstood, desperate, endured, obedience, melodramatic, misconceptions, behavioral (they will continue to work on prefixes and suffixes in phonics)

Author Visit: Cynthia Willenbrock will be visiting with us on Wednesday, January 29th with her special guest Marshall.  Her book is called Marshall the Miracle Dog.  Marshall will be along for the visit as well!  If you would like a signed copy of the book for your personal library please make sure to bring the order form to school, along with cash or check (made out to The Marshall Movement) for $16.95 by Tuesday, January 21st.
Research Project: This project will take the place of a book report of the third quarter.
You will find all the information in these documents please read carefully and ask questions along the way.  I am excited to see what the students come up with!  Students have begun to work on their works cited page.  All information can be found in their Google Drive.  We have spent some time in class going over the expectations for the report but work should be done at home too.

Art: The students painted their Snowman Winter Batik Banners on Friday.  They will put the final touches on their art work this week.  

Library Days: Each Tuesday the 4th graders are able to select two reading books of their choice. Please note that books need to be turned in by 8:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Scholastic Book Club: You may place book orders online through Scholastic Book Club through Friday, January 31st.  Check out the catalog online. Please use our parent code to log in and order your books.  There is a link to the Book Club page on the right side of this blog.  Happy Reading!

Shoe Collection: We are collecting shoes for the Shoeman Water Project.  Please bring gently used shoes (no holes) to school starting Tuesday.  Thank you for your generosity. 

Pizza Hut Book IT!  Read Your Heart Out!
From October - March your child will have an opportunity to fill out their Book IT! reading calendar saying they read 20 minutes a day.  When they turn in their form, they will receive a certificate to Pizza Hut for a free, one-topping Personal Pizza for their reading achievement.
Find a good book and start reading!

Save those BOX TOPS!
Each class will compete to collect the most box tops for the school.  The box tops are collected and turned in for money used to support the school.
