News and Notes for December 19th and 20th

Quarter 2 is coming to an end on Tuesday.  Please check Educate for any missing work.  Students received a paper from me with any missing math or reading work listed. All work needs to be turned in by Monday.  Service Project Forms are due on Monday as well.

**Reminder** Join us for the CCLS Advent Service on Monday, December 19th at Concordia at 7 p.m. The parking lot gets full fast, so you may want to arrive early.
4th graders should use the restroom beforehand and be seated at 6:55 p.m. with their homeroom teacher.
Make sure they have their recorders with them on Monday at school for rehearsal and for the advent service.  They may wear their school uniform or church clothes.

**Chapel Buddy Gift Exchange** Monday, December 19th
We will have a small gift exchange with our chapel buddies on Monday.  You may purchase something small or the fourth graders could make something to exchange with their buddy.

We will have library time on Monday at 1:30 p.m.  Please make sure your child has returned all their library books so they can check out new ones.

Tuesday, December 21st is a Free Dress Day for making an outstanding donation of 1,000 cans to KirkCare Food Drive. Also, we have Christmas Parties at 2 p.m. please join us if you would like.

MATH: In Math this week the students will have a Test on Monday to finish out the second quarter.

Here is a great visual dictionary for Math Concepts: Math is Fun Visual Dictionary

I am pleased to tell you that we will be using a website called IXL in our classroom this year. IXL is a comprehensive learning program offering unlimited math practice problems in thousands of skills.  One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child's progress! Your child's unique username and password are in their planner.  You may download the app or use on any device's web browser to access the website.  Please let me know if you need any help.

READING: Students are working on the book The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.  You may ask questions or read along with them at home.  It is a wonderful Christmas time story.

Accelerated Reader is a program we use at CCLS to help with Reading Comprehension.  Students may use their login to check reading comprehension on their own books at home as well.

ART: Students created video projects that show how Failure Leads to Success.  This is a great point I like to use throughout the year.  When we fail at anything in life, we can use that experience to help us improve the next time and hopefully succeed in the future.  Enjoy the videos from their Seesaw Accounts or from this link: Failure Leads to Success

LIBRARY DAY: We have an outstanding librarian this year, Mrs. Mary Beth Sullivan. Please give her a kind CCLS welcome when you see her around the building.  Mrs. Sullivan spends time reading with our students each visit and helps them when selecting books.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB:  You may place book orders online through Scholastic Book Club through Friday, January 27th.  Check out the catalog online.  Please use our parent code to log in and order your books.  There is also a scholastic link to the Book Club page on the right side of this blog.  Happy Reading!

Take time to worship with your family this weekend.

I hope you can attend one of these churches or a different church of your choice.

Cans for Kirk Care

Help support Kirk Care by bringing canned and nonperishable food items in anytime between now and Thursday, December 8th. We have set a goal of 1,000 cans to donate from CCLS. If the students are able to reach the goal, they will earn a free dress day. We will also be sending some of our 7th and 8th grade students to help sort and pack food at Kirk Care's center of operations at Kirkwood Community of Christ Church.
