Newsletter January 7th - 11th

Math:  This week we will be completing lessons 56-60.  We are working on fractions, rates and multiplying numbers with more than three-digits.
Reading: Our theme this week is learning about "People Who Made a Difference".  The students will read the book "My Brother Martin" by Christine King Farris.  They will learn about Martin Luther King Jr.'s life as a child and how his sister wants readers "to see that ordinary people can grow up to do great things."  We will have a test over this story on Friday, January 18th.

Art: We are starting to learn about artist Sonia Delaunay.  She uses colors and shapes in her artwork in a style called Abstract Art.  The students will replicate her artwork called "Electrical Prism" using different sized circles.  If you have circular objects we can trace in class, please send them with students for art on Friday.  Examples could be lids of water bottles, plastic cups, different sized tubs, and many other ideas too!
