Newsletter August 26th-30th

Math:  This week we are working on Lessons 7-11.  Students must show all work on their homework in the work box and write all answers in the answers column.  There is a special math homework sheet available.  I always tell the students to keep a few extra in their binders but in case they forget there is a link to the math sheet on my blog or save a copy from here: Math Homework Form.

Working with a partner each person had to use Base Ten Blocks to "build" a number.  Then their partner had to figure out what the number was.  Here are a few of their creations--very creative!

Reading: This week we continue our theme about Mysteries.  We will be reading an article "Putting Together the Pieces of the Puzzle" as well as reading and learning about fingerprinting and forensics.  There will not be a reading test this week, students are expected to be participating in class as we learn about forensic science and how to solve mysteries.

Remember that students need to have their own free reading book to have at their desk.  Our first library day will start on Tuesday, September 3rd.  Students will be able to check out 2 books at a time.

Art: We are working on how Failure Leads to Success in our art animations.  We are using the program WeVideo that is connected to their Google Drive to work with their illustrations to create a short film.

Looking ahead at our next project we need some materials.  Louise Nevelson was an artist who took items that may appear like trash to some people and created beautiful sculptures with them.  Your mission is to find pieces of plastics, woods, and metals that can be painted.  For example: bolts, screws, wine corks, puzzle pieces, buttons, small wooden objects, trinkets from a dollar store or garage sale are always popular.  Whatever you can find that meets these needs will be greatly appreciated to begin our projects.

Christian Character Development: We are still working on the idea that Failure leads to Success and how we can help others through those times of failure to make them positive experiences.

Chapel Buddies: We will meet with chapel buddies for chapel and on Thursdays for a short time to help them with projects or to read a book together.

Scholastic Book Club: You may place book orders order online through Scholastic Book Club through Friday, August 30th.  Check out the catalog online. Please use our parent code to log in and order your books.  There is also a link to scholastic book on the right side of this blog.  Happy Reading!
