Newsletter April 29th-May 3rd

We had another enjoyable week in 4th grade.
Please read to find out all the exciting events that are coming up this next week!

Please make sure to tell Mr. Fishburn congratulations as he heads back to Seward, NE for his graduation ceremony. Lucky for us, he will be returning next year as one of our 3rd grade teachers.

Math:  Review Monday and Test Tuesday! Investigation 10 and Lesson 91

Reading: We will begin reading the story "Exploring the Undersea Territory". We will work with vocabulary, fact or opinion and identifying inferences.

Book ReportMost of our reading this week will be working on the book report.  Students should read through their script at home to make sure it flows well and that they completely summarized their book.  To record their themselves reading, I used the a free app on an iPad called BejBej Voice Recorder Pro.  If you would like to download the app at home so they can record their book report that would be great.  If not we will be recording all week long.  Any app will work as long as it can convert their recording to an MP3.

To use the app
1) Record their Book Report Summary; it will be in a MP4 format
2) Change Title to their First and Last Name
3) Convert file to MP3
4) Save only the MP3 file to their Google Drive

Newsletter April 15th-19th

Math:  This week we will focus on math skills. Depending on our testing schedule we may complete Lesson 86.

Achievement Tests: April 15th-18th
Achievement Tests
We will begin achievement tests on April 15.  Our schedule will span testing through Thursday.  If we need Friday we will use it.  We work to create a comfortable atmosphere for this experience.
  • The children will be given a bit of chocolate mint before each test.  (Please send in bags of chocolate mint candies to share.)
  • We encourage them to eat an especially healthy breakfast.
  • They should bring a healthy snack for each morning.
  •  We will use the stacking cups before each test to prepare their minds for focusing on the tests.
  • Each child should have a book to read as there will be time to wait until all children are finished with a certain test.
Book Report: This week the fourth graders will type their script and make final editions.   Some of the work will be done in class so please make sure your student has a copy of their book ready to use along with their completed rough draft.
